Group Leader Cell Pharmacology (Chronic Kidney Disease) - Mechelen


For a fast-growing international biotech company, we are looking for a Team Leader Cell Pharmacology (Chronic Kidney Disease) for their Belgian office. Due to their success, they are greatly upscaling their pre-clinical activities. Therefore, they are looking for an accomplished biologist to set up and lead the new Cell Pharmacology group, focussed on Chronic Kidney Disease.

This Cell Pharmacology group will be composed of researchers and scientists whose mission is the development of vitro cellular and phenotypic assays to support the drug discovery program in Chronic Kidney Disease. Furthermore, the group will also be involved in deciphering in vitro targets and disease mechanisms.


After setting up the group, you will have full group leader responsibilities. You will supervise, organise and develop the activities of the team, will identify and implement assays, experiments and innovative technologies, which are needed to support the drug discovery projects and to maintain and further levered team expertise in in vitro technologies and cellular models.

Furthermore you will represent the Cellular Pharmacology department for chronic kidney projects and you will interact closely with the Therapeutic Area Project Leaders. As line manager, are also expected to motivate and guide individuals’ career development.


  • Ph.D. followed by post-doctoral training
  • Previous experience with Chronic Kidney Disease or related areas
  • Minimum seven years of industrial experience in vitro cellular and phenotypic assay development
  • Demonstrate expertise in establishing in vitro assay cascades supporting small molecules drug discovery projects.
  • Previous experience in team and people management
  • Ability to drive multiple projects through matrix based organisation
  • Ability to bring new ideas and have a strong creativity to tackle challenges issues
  • Team player with objective driven mind-set
  • Excellent communicational and organisational skills
