Function

As Group Agricultural Manager reporting to the Group COO and in collaboration with the Group Barley and Risk Manager, and the seeds Manager, you will be responsible for managing the malting barley origination program focused on farmers or via coops to ensure barley availability in quality and in volumes globally and in adequation with customer expectations. In this role, you will lead the efforts to create a long-term origination program which while being sustainable will anticipate worldwide markets in barley growth and mitigates exposure and risks of ever-changing climate and weather conditions worldwide.

In this role, you will be the responsible person for:

  • Leading an agronomy team to develop & deliver a sustainable global multi-year malting barley sourcing strategy which is industry leading
  • Active contact with seed breeders to maintain an innovation pipeline which is good for our planet, our growers and our customers
  • Report on world-wide risk assessment and proactively develop de-risking strategies in line with business needs
  • Maintaining and growing our business relationship with our growers, universities and other stakeholders in our malting barley supply network
  • Collaborating with our commercial team to drive our value creation, and innovation agendas and to secure sustainable competitive advantage
  • Bringing Boortmalt’s best practices in malting barley to local communities to support sustainable growth and yield increasement
  • Creating a knowledge-base of agricultural market information on barley

Requirements

The person we are looking for has a proven experience of:

  • A Master’s degree in agriculture, biochemistry of similar
  • At least five years of experience in global business management role and origination program management
  • At least 10 years of experience in sourcing agricultural commodities worldwide
  • A strong network in the global agricultural world and awareness of market trends
  • Has a strong KPI mindset and is willing to implement this in his day to day work
  • Expat with an improvement and innovations mindset
  • Awareness of global and local regulations in regard to registration of IP
  • A people manager with a down to earth approach
  • Fluent in English and preferably Spanish
  • Frequent travelling is required
