For a biotech company near Brussels, we are looking for a Head of Biology. By using their cutting-edge technology platform, the company is working on developing new peptide based drugs, with a focus on anti-bacterial and oncological compounds. Finishing a series A funding round, they have a solid financial basis and are scaling up their activities. To ensure the quality of the biological research, they are looking for an industry experienced in-vivo / translational biologist to manage all biological aspects in the early drug discovery and development phases.


In this position, you will be in charge of the whole biological strategy in the drug discovery and validation processes. You will be leading your own cell biology team, being responsible for the in-vitro, in-vivo as well as the translational research activities. This group and their number of projects are expected to grow further and thus will your responsibilities. Furthermore, you will be reporting directly to the CSO. Together you will be deciding on the discovery and early development strategy of the company. In this position your responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to:

  • Line management of the cell biology group
  • Outsourcing all necessary research activities (f.e. in-vivo)
  • Determine disease relevant strategy
  • The responsibility over all biological discovery/development/translational research activities
  • Project leadership in multi-disciplinary research
  • Present activities to the senior management
  • Strong influence on target selection


You will bring the following skill set/experience:

  • Ph.D. (or equivalent) in biology, biotechnology or related fields
  • At least five years of industrial experience in in-vivo drug discovery and translational research
  • Solid knowledge of target validation, translational concepts and target/pathway modulation
  • Previous people management experience in an industrial setting
  • Strong understanding of the oncology disease area
