Apeel Sciences, headquartered in Santa Barbara, CA, USA, is looking to nature to derive sustainable solutions to our global food challenges like food waste and is currently searching for a Sales Director EMEA B2B. Through pioneering plant-derived technologies, Apeel Sciences is helping fresh food providers improve food quality, reduce waste and ensure an abundant future for our planet. Focus of Apeel Sciences is to being an environmental trailblazer at the intersection of the agricultural, materials science, chemistry, biotechnology, and engineering disciplines because of this they are looking for a brilliant, passionate problem-solver to join their engineering team.


In the role as Sales Director EMEA B2B, you will be an active member of the Apeel supplier relations leadership team, with collective responsibility to maximise profitability, growth and market share. This includes, but is not limited to, driving the business development pipeline for commodities focusing on growth opportunities and execution of the company strategy, identifying and onboarding new growers, packers and distributors onto Apeel’s system and travelling extensively to farms and packing houses to work with suppliers on packing methods together with our technology team. Furthermore, you will follow market conditions on commodity items and develop supply-side contract, business model, and pricing strategies. Stay keenly aware of the market and competitors and provide market insights to the company. In this position, you report directly to the VP of supplier relations and collaborate closely with Apeel’s marketing, product and strategy teams. Also, it is important to indicate that it is not mandatory to relocate to ‘De Lier’.


  • Minimum of 10 years related experience in a produce industry working with a leading or multiple growers, packers and shippers of fruits and vegetables
  • Based in the Netherlands and/or Spain
  • Bachelor’s degree is required; a Master’s degree (business, agricultural business or related field) is a plus
  • Experience with multiple fresh vegetable crops in multiple growing areas and/or with buying or selling produce is a plus
  • A strong understanding of the produce business and the supply and distribution chains from the perspective of growers, packers/shippers, and retail customers and how technology fits in
  • A proven track record of successfully building sales and profits in a “Best in Class” environment and developing new programs, products, packaging, promotional and merchandising ideas that are customer specific
  • Strong record of working as a team and successful “team selling”, involving other company functional leaders, leadership team, and in a multicultural environment
  • Frequent traveling is part of the job expectation

Knowledge and Skills

  • Profession working fluency in English and at least one other European language, preferably Spanish
  • Outstanding communications, presentation and interpersonal skills
  • Foster new business relationships and maintain existing relationships
  • Effectively manage projects from conception to completion in a timeline-driven environment
  • A track record of managing successful external technology alliances is desirable
  • Solid knowledge of produce growing, produce pricing, and an extensive farm relationship network, and ability to connect with grower and packers, at all levels of an organisation
  • Knowledge of quality and food safety best practices and standards and related government regulations, as they are related to produce packing/shipping operations is desirable
  • The demonstrated ability to take technical information and translate it into practical information for growers
