For a large innovative, international health and nutrition organisation, we are currently looking for an Associate Scientific Programmer. To be precise, for their fast growing biotech R&D department in which biotechnological innovations and the development of new bio-products and sustainable bio-production processes are being realised.

The organisation is a multinational that is divided into four businesses, which all have different business units. Among those four businesses, they are active in chemicals, food, biotechnology, medical devices and pharma. The company is active in more than 50 countries and employs 89 different nationalities. In over 200 sites, this company works with 25.000 colleagues.


In this exciting role, you will be working in an interdisciplinary team composed of lab-automation experts and data scientists. On a day to day basis you will be an integral part in the development, expansion and implementation of software systems that are being used by Technicians and Scientists in a wide array of projects involving microbial strain engineering and screening for biotech and food applications. The applications of these systems are varied, among others they will be used in high-throughput lab automation, information management and data visualisation.


The ideal candidate:

  • Holds a BSc. or MSc. in computer science (or a related such as data science, software engineering, computational/systems biology, bioinformatics)
  • Ideally has experience in the life sciences industry
  • Has experience with laboratory information management or sample management system
  • At minimum has two years of experience working in a software development environment including version control (preferably Git), unit testing and code review
  • Possesses excellent object-oriented programming skills (p.e. Java, C#, Python)
  • Knows how work in Scrum
  • Has the ability to gather and understand needs as expressed by experimentalists
  • Possesses personal skills like problem analysis, creativity and has strong communication skills, to both expert as non-expert audiences


You will start with a one-year contract which the possibility of a permanent extension.
