Our client is a privately held French biotech company and they are looking for a Senior Director Medicinal Chemistry to take full ownership of their chemistry activities. The company was started five years ago as a spin-off of a scientific group and aims to develop new small molecules targeting RNA targets, using structural biology as a key approach. In their development, they are supported both financially and operationally by a well known biotech, thus having long-term financial stability. Reaching their milestones, they are now looking to increase R&D efforts and are looking for a specialist in the field to be the face of medicinal chemistry within the company.

In this position, you will have strong visibility both internally and externally, as you will be the face of medicinal chemistry. Currently the strategy is determined by the CEO and CSO. But due to the increased chemistry efforts, there is a need for a fully dedicated specialist. Therefore in this position, you will take full ownership and be end responsible for all scientific as well as operational aspects of the chemistry. You will also ensure a smooth collaboration with the academic and industrial partners. You will translate your vision in a concrete strategy on which the industrial partner, doing the hands-on chemistry, has to deliver. Out of your past experience, you will give the company a face in this collaboration and you will be challenging them on their work. In this position, you will be directly reporting to the CSO.

To be successful in this position, you will bring following qualifications:

  • PhD in medicinal chemistry or equivalent
  • 10 + years of industry experience in this field
  • Strong communicator with previous project management and team leadership experience
  • Expertise in (ribosomal) RNA as a drug target
  • Familiarity with structure-based drug design and fragment-based drug design
  • Familiarity with the use of biophysical techniques

In this role, you will have the opportunity to be fully end-responsible over all chemistry related aspects inside a promising and financially stable biotechnology company. You will be able to define the short and long term chemical strategy within a company that aims to be a successful platform company. Thus, there will be significant opportunities for personal development. Being instrumental to the success of the company, you will have strong visibility both internally as externally. Also, the company offers a competitive salary package with a base salary starting at 100,000 euros and strong secondary benefits. You will also have strong flexibility to work home-office.
