LikeMeat is an organisation which produces meat products without animal meat and is currently looking for a Food Science Technologist. With the support of his family business in meat processing, Timo Recker founded LikeMeat in December 2013. During his studies in England in 2010, he came up with the brilliant idea to produce the most popular meat products, but completely without animal meat. Together with his team he has developed a production technology that finally matches the quality of meat and results in a firm, delicious and succulent texture. Just like meat!

This LikeMeat process is unique in the market and keeps the special quality for the LikeMeat brand. In 2016, the Heristo group merged with LikeMeat in order to provide the young company with the necessary momentum and organisational structure to make the LikeMeat brand to the most successful brand for meat alternatives.


As a Senior Food Science Technologist you will join the team as an expert with a key responsibility in the further development of the vegan products. You will play a vital role in making sure that Like Meat’s products can be characterised and recognised as meat. On a daily basis you will focus on improving the taste, color and texture of our products while keeping a hands-on role analysing, testing and in documentation.

As the company is rapidly growing, they are looking for a Senior Food Science Technologist who gets excited when collaborating in a multidisciplinary team. If you are excellent in driving an open research culture and love to share ideas and knowledge to drive our products to the next level of development, we are looking for you! Ideally you are an expert in flavour, texture and color. In this role your responsibilities will be, but not limited to:

  • Design, lead and conduct sensory studies
  • Analyse, report and present data updates
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with scientists, engineers and culinary experts
  • Facilitate and participate in the development of new prototypes
  • Develop and optimise our current products
  • Document and optimise experimental procedures and work processes
  • Execute product development trails with external customers and partners
  • Identify the market trends and customer needs to determine new potential products


The ideal candidate has the following requirements:

  • BSc or MSc degree in food technology, food chemistry
  • A minimum of five years working experience in research & development with at least two years experience within the field of meat(free) products
  • Proven track record with texture and nutrition related product development of vegan products
  • Strong affinity/knowledge within reaction flavours (maillard reaction)
  • Proven experience in sensory trails is considered a strong plus
  • Experience in managing complex research
  • Good command of English and preferably Dutch and German
  • EU citizen, European work permit/visa
