For Ovizio, an organisation which develops and commercialises unique microscopes that serve the life sciences research and manufacturing industries all over the world, we are looking for a Senior Software Engineer Machine Learning. Recently, Ovizio completed a substantial Series B financing round to realise the next stage of growth. This tech start-up located in Brussels consists of a group of 20 ambitious professionals who are highly motivated to bring Ovizio to the next level.

Their growing company is in need of an ambitious Software Engineer Machine Learning to take ownership of the further development of their image processing software in Europe. In this function, you will report directly to the CEO.


Within this role you should be passionate about science and ground-breaking technology. You will be responsible for the development and implementation of machine learning solutions. Developing tools and methods to increase the capacity for data analysis and increase the information extracted from the data. This role is not a nine to five software job, this is about identifying emerging technology trends, especially in the area of ​​AI, machine learning, and data science, ensuring the company is leveraging them when appropriate to increase efficiency and drive value.

As the Senior Software Engineer Machine Learning, you will be responsible for:

  • Implement the scalability of Ovizio’s image-based machine learning platform: introduce and develop an interface for our end-users to upload their data and facilitate the extraction of the biological measures
  • Develop tools and methods to increase the capacity for data analysis and to increase the information extracted from the data
  • Drive the changes to the software development necessary to enable a continuous delivery model, and foster a strong focus on automation of the software development life cycle (SDLC)
  • Develop the portability to the cloud of the interface and new tools developed
  • Manage the software team by setting priorities on the development activities
  • Identify emerging technology trends, especially in the area of AI, machine learning, and data science, and ensure the company is leveraging them when appropriate to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and drive value
  • Ensure the quality of all software development in terms of code quality, product reliability and robustness, and documentation
  • Seek out, validate, and bring to the organisation innovative best practices and ideas from the outside, with a particular emphasis on application development methodologies
  • Manage the software testing (including Beta testing, and automation testing)


Our ideal candidate would possess:

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in software development and project management
  • Experience with image processing
  • Masters or PhD in computer science, data sciences, or a related field
  • Previous position in bioprocessing industry is a plus
  • Experience developing and supporting mission critical applications optimised to run in the cloud or virtualised environments
  • Expertise with managing application development at scale, employing SDLC methodologies including Agile and Scrum
  • Fluent in python and C++
  • Deep knowledge of system architecture, technical design, and system and software development technology
  • Knowledge of emerging trends and developments in image processing, AI and machine learning are mandatory for the person who will take this responsibility
  • Has successfully led development and delivery of complex business technology solutions into production that have achieved or surpassed business goals
  • Highly analytical mindset, with an ability to see both the big picture and the details
  • Accepts ownership and welcomes responsibility
  • Ability to step into projects already in progress, or in need of rescue
  • Fluent in English; French or Dutch is a plus
