NutriLeads is an innovative health ingredients scale-up that develops crop-derived food ingredients with clinically proven health benefits and is currently looking for a Translational Scientist. Nutrileads aspires to become a leading player in shaping the food system to become more sustainable, healthy, and trusted. Their most advanced ingredient, Xtramune™ is a proprietary carrot-derived fibre clinically shown to support immune function and increase resistance to respiratory infections. The production has been successfully scaled from bench to large scale pilot plant production of multiple batches used for clinical trials and for the ongoing Novel Foods and GRAS procedures. They are currently working towards commercialisation of Xtramune™ via major producers of functional foods and dietary supplements starting from 2021 in the US.

To strengthen the team and further develop the scientific evidence for their health ingredients, we are looking for an experienced Translational Scientist to initiate, coordinate, and evaluate (pre)clinical studies. You will work closely with external science partners, including study sites, CRO’s, and leading academic experts in the field. In this function, you will report directly to the CEO.


The main objective is to ensure that the key ingredients are developed from pre-clinical concept to clinical evaluation. Together with the CEO and CIO, you will decide upon the program strategy to support the intended claims and execute the required studies accordingly.

Furthermore, you will:

  • Contribute to the design of the preclinical and clinical program to develop new health ingredients and further strengthen the evidence for existing health ingredients
  • Review literature, coordinate statistical data analyses/data mining, and support external research collaborations
  • Stay up to date with external scientific developments relevant to NutriLeads’ portfolio to make clear recommendations, based on the gathered information
  • Act as the lead function for NutriLeads as a sponsor for contract research organisations (CRO’s), study sites, and other related parties, as well as building/maintaining the momentum to execute the (pre)clinical program within the timeframe and budget according to the appropriate quality and GCP standards
  • Be responsible for all aspects of the studies from design, protocol writing, site selection, and contract management up until analysis of data, reporting, and presenting at (scientific) conferences


To be successful in this position, you must have the following experience:

  • A scientific background with a PhD in life sciences or nutrition and at least 5 years additional work experience, preferably within the pharmaceutical or food industry
  • Experience in the development of food ingredients with a health proposition or pharma projects, related to immune function or gut health
  • A track record and strong capabilities to build and manage effective collaborations and vendor relations, including working with academic partners
  • Experience with all phases of a development program including initial design, CRO and site selection, protocol and CSR writing, monitoring GCP documentation, statistical data evaluation, and reporting
  • You are up to date on the pertinent regulatory requirements of clinical trial management
  • Possess excellent (scientific) writing and communication skills
