1 OCT '24: For our client, a renowned industry association with a 60+ year track record in the oil refining industries we are now looking for a Science Executive – REACH Substance Identity and SIEF to join the team. This role is particularly interesting as you will lead and coordinate scientific and technical activities on the continuous improvement of environmental practices in line with EU policies, to help navigate the industry in this complexly regulated environment promoting sustainable practices.

This is how you will make the difference

The Science Executive requires ensuring compliance with governance rules, supporting the Management Group Chairs, and facilitating cooperation among Special Task Forces (STFs). You will monitor scientific and regulatory developments, develop and implement long-term strategies, and manage the execution of research projects, including budget oversight and risk management. The role also involves serving as a technical expert, representing the industry at conferences, and interacting with EU and global regulatory bodies. In addition, you will lead the management of substance identity for EU REACH compliance, improving identity profiles, coordinating analytical projects, and working with toxicology and environmental teams. The role also includes managing the Substance Information Exchange Forum (SIEF) team, handling dossier updates, and ensuring compliance with non-EU regulations. Supervision of staff and collaborating with other teams are key components, alongside managing the communication and technical work needed to maintain compliance and regulatory standards across the refining industry.

What you bring

Understandably as a Science Executive you will need to bring sound and in depth expertise of the REACH regulatory framework, and broad experience (as well as a proven track record) in a member company or the oil refining industry. Moreover you bring the following along:
  • 12+ years of industry experience in the oil refinery sector;
  • Capacity to quickly learn and act on REACH regulatory issues and the capability to identify risks associated with the REACH compliance strategy;
  • Strong interest and awareness of EU institutions decision-making processes for technical items;
  • Excellent communication- and negotiation skills including a sense of diplomacy;
  • Ability to think strategically and put technical issues in broader context;
  • Outstanding presentation skills, allowing to convey complex items to senior management;
  • Project management skills/certifications;
  • Professional level of English, both written and verbal, additional languages would be advantages.
